According to local residents, a man was killed by a landmine on the morning of March 22 in Mount Wisa, near the Kyaik Htee Yoe Pagoda in, Kyaikhto Township, Mon State.
25-year-old Ko Khin Zaw Htwe, stepped on a landmine while logging on Mount Wisa.
According to local residents, Ko Khin Zaw Htwe died immediately.
“On the morning of March 22, Ko Khin Zaw Htwe was going to work at a logging site in Mount Wisa with friends. He went up the hill alone, when he stepped on the landmine and died, ” said a resident.
Ko Khin Zaw Htwe was a casual laborer with a family that he supported.
“When he died, he left behind his wife and two children,” said the local residents.
Last August 2022, a young man was injured by a landmine when he went into the forest near Mount Wisa on the way to the waterfall on Mount Kyaik Htee Yoe.
Also, in September 2022, in two separate incidents, a man stepped on a landmine near Chaungkwayt Village in Kyaikhto Township, and another man stepped on a mine found between Saungnainggyi and Meyonegyi villages.
The Military Council’s Army, the Karen and the People’s Defense Forces are all active in these areas. It has not yet been confirmed which organization planted the landmines, according to local residents.
