Hundreds of cars blocked from travel due to armed clash on Ye-Dawei Road

-

The Ye-Dawei Road road  between Ye Phyu and Dawei townships, was the site of armed fighting on February 12th around 3pm.

Hundreds of cars were stuck on the road due to the armed fighting.

The fighting was between the Military Council and the People’s Defense Forces.

Cars coming from the Yangon side were backed up for  25 miles, and cars coming from Dawei were backed up for  19 miles.  The military council’s army did not allow vehicles  to travel along the roadway during the fighting.

“The battle was full of gunfire from both sides. When the roads were closed by the army, cars lined up for nights. On the morning of February 13, some cars were allowed to cross, but there were many cars still stuck along the roadside,” said one local resident.

The fighting continued until after 6:00 p.m.

“The cars were allowed to continue along the roadway in the morning, but they were being inspected. Even when the road was opened, it was still tight. There was so much trouble,” one driver said.

Local residents said that the details of the fighting were not yet known.

There are frequent shootings between the military council troops and the local defense forces on the Ye-Dawei road in Ye Phyu Township.  Military council vehicles are often attacked.
