The sister of U Than Tun, the Administrator of Tu Myaung village in Ye Township, was shot dead in her home on the morning of March 27.
According to an official from the Ye Township Police Station, she was shot in the chest and died from her wounds. It is believed the gunman intended to shoot U Than Tun instead.
“He must have come to shoot U Than Tun but the bullets hit his sister. He fired three shots killing her. The body was examined at the hospital and has now been returned to the family,” he said.
Killings of village administrators have been a frequent occurrence since the Feb 1, 2021 coup. On February 2nd U Maung Myint, the Administrator for Asin Model Village, in Ye Township was also shot dead.
At least three other people, including a retired army colonel, and a schoolteacher who had been accused of spying, were also shot dead.
