In Mon State Gasoline prices continue to rise, the price of 95 octane fuel rose to 1,820 kyats per liter.
According to a three-wheeler driver in Mawlamyine, the daily rise in fuel prices has made it difficult for taxi drivers.
“In the past, after running for half a day, it was worth it. Okay, you can go home and rest. Now you can not do that. Today, if we get 20,000 in fares, it will cost us about 10,000 kyats. Once the oil price is removed, there is really nothing left,” he said.
The table below shows the rapid rise in price for different fuel types within just one week in February 2022. Prices from December 2021 show a steeper rise in prices.
95 Octane | 92 Octane | Diesel | Premium diesel | |
Feb 4, 2022 | 1,770/kyat/litre | 1,665/kyat/litre | 1,695/kyat/litre | 1,700/kyat/litre |
Feb 10, 2022 | 1,820/kyat/litre | 1,715/kyat//litre | 1,755/kyat/litre | 1,770/kyat/litre |

A Mawlamyine business person said, “Some businesses have been shut down for a while because of gasoline prices. Then we have to do it again. It is not easy to continue as usual.”
Gasoline prices have been rising since last February, when the coup took place.
