Earlier this year Daw Mar Mar Khaing was arrested under section 505(a) of the country’s penal code for allegedly leading protests against the military dictatorship and urging workers to join the civil disobedience movement.

A source close to the Khain family believes the final verdict of her case will be handed down on November 30.
Daw Mar Mar Khaing is currently being held at Kyaikmaraw Central Prison and is reported to be in poor health.
Nyan Tun, husband to Daw Mar Mar Khaing and a member of the National League of Democracy (NLD) Executive Committee in Thaton Township , was arrested on February 28 and also charged under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.
However, Nyan Tun’s case was closed and he was released in October of this year.
A similar section of the penal code including 505 (a) was also used to charge Former Mon State Prime Minister Dr Aye Zan, with nine counts pertaining to the country’s anti-corruption laws. He will be sentenced by the end of November, according to those close to his network.
