The All Mon Regions COVID-19 Protection and Support Committee, made up of 9 Mon social associations, provided a deposit of 49 million Kyat for the purchase of an oxygen plant, on August 7.
The contract was signed between Yangon based OMNI Trade Industrial One-Stop Service and the All Mon Regions COVID-19 Protection and Support Committee. According to the contract, the machinery costs over 90,000,000 Kyat and an additional 110,000,000 Kyat is needed for the building and oxygen supply related materials.

“The donors would like the committee to lead the project. Over 49 million Kyat has been raised which amounts to 50% of the total cost of the oxygen supply plant. The capacity that the plant can produce is over 100 cylinders with 40 liters per day,” said Dr. Aung Naing Oo.
The OMNI Trade Industrial One-Stop Service will provide the oxygen supply machine and materials within 35 days, and it will transport the materials to the Yangon seaport. It’s believed that the work to reach the Yangon seaport will be completed in the first week of September. The oxygen cylinders from the plant will be distributed across Mon State to places that need the supply, according to Dr. Aung Naing Oo.
Currently Mon State has insufficient oxygen supply for COVID-19 patients. Once the plant is constructed, there will be enough supply for the state, according to a spokesperson from the Mawlamyine Rescue Group.
“After the plant is completed, it will be more convenient. Also, locals are working on having plants for their individual townships in some Mon State’s townships,” said the spokesperson.
At the moment, Sarsana Nwe Foundation is building an oxygen plant in Mawlamyine City. There are also two plants – one in the Thanbyuzayat Liquid Oxygen Plant (PaungSein) and another at the Public Hospital – being built with the support of residents, in Thanbyuzayat Town.
