Five members of the Mon Unity Party Central Executive Committee (CEC) and some MUP Township members resigned from the party on March 24, following the MUP decision to participate in the State Administrative Council (SAC) created by the military in the wake of the February 1 coup.

Their resignation letters have been posted and shared on Facebook.
Those who resigned include Nai Htun Pe, based in Karen State’s Hpa-An City, Nai Htaw Rot and Mi Kyae Kyae Nyi both based in Paung Town, and Mi Sandar Mon from Mudon. Dr. Aung Naing Oo, who served as a former Mon State Hluttaw deputy speaker, resigned from the MUP on Feb. 22, where he had served as on the CEC. He retains his position for ChaungZon Township.
A total of 33 MUP members have resigned to date. The resignations include 2 members from the central level, a joint secretary, 13 central executive members, , 11 members from the central committee members and 7 members from the party’s township level.
MUP’s ECE Dr. Banyar Aung Moe and Nai Laeyeh Tamarh MUP’s joint-secretary (1) remain on the State Administrative Council (SAC).
The MUP was composed of 61 members serving on the Central Executive Committee members and 140 committee members. The chair of MUP is Nai Tin Aung, a former of New Mon State Party’s central executive committee.
The MUP was founded with the merger of the Mon National Party (MNP) and the All Mon Regions Democratic Party (AMDP), along with leaders of Mon civil society organizations and community based organizations in 2019.
