The Mawlamyine-Yangon No.90 daily passenger train was blocked by protesters this morning and had to return to Mawlamyine Central Station.

“The train left Mawlamyine station at about 8:50 am and the crowd blocked the fork in the train station. Gradually, the crowd began to gather. The train could not continue and returned to the station at about 11:30 in the morning,” said a railway staff.

About two-thirds of the railway staff in Mawlamyine are on strike, participating in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).

“I am not participating in  the CDM, because I am still applying for a pension, I am afraid of losing my job,” he added.

All private banks in Mawlamyine and throughout Mon State were closed.

Anti-military protests continue daily in all towns in Mon State, including Mawlamyine.
