In the Mon State, tens of thousands of Mawlamyine residents, many marched, or rode motorcycles, and drove cars from the top of Science Road across the city to protest the military coup.
The action began at 8 am, February 8 and included NLD supporters, social relief organizations and civil society groups, all joining in protests that have been taking place across the country since February 1. Protesters also marched from Mawlamyine Lower Road to Lamudan, and in the Hlaing wards
Protesters shouted “…overthrow the military dictatorship. We call for democracy, and the release of the President and the State Counselor, Aung San Suu Kyi.”
In the evening, beginning at 8pm protesters beat pots and pans from their homes as part of daily demonstrations.
Across Mon State, in townships that include Thaton, Belin, Paung, Thanbyuzayat, Kyaikkhami, as well as in the major cities of Yangon, and Nay Pyi Taw protests have been on the rise across the country.
