The Kamar Wet Police seized more than 90 kg of Kratom leaves at a house in Klaw Taw Village, Mudon Township, in the evening on January 5.
“After receiving information about the selling of Kratom leaves we searched the house. There, Kratom leaves were found and a Min Pine Soe was arrested at the house. This case is being prosecuted under the law” said the Chief of Police Kyaw Myint Naing.
Police found the leaves packed inside of six bags and stored in a back room of the upstairs of the house.
“I don’t want to see kratom leaves or other illegal drugs appearing in our community and it should not be appearing. I’m worried about the young boys, because they are just crazy about it. I welcome arrests like that but I want them to arrest the main one [dealer], then the drugs will no longer exist.,” said a retired teacher from Klawt Taw village.
Min Paing Soe, 22 years old, was arrested by the Kamar Wet Police and charged under Section 19 (K) of the Criminal Procedure Code MY(P) 1/2020.
In late December 2020, police arrested others involved in growing Kratom leaves at a plantation near Tharyar Gone and Ning Prine villages in Mudon Township.
