MUP ready to meet with NLD delegation

-

The Mon Unity Party (MUP) announced they are ready to meet with the National League for Democracy (NLD) delegation, if their offer to meet is extended again.  The MUP prefer the meeting take place in a neutral venue and not at NDL offices.

“We are always ready to discuss with any party and organization if it is beneficial for the Union.” Said Nai Laye Tama, Joint spokesperson (1) for the Mon Unity Party.

The National League for Democracy (NLD) leader,  Dr Aung Moe Nyo told reporters yesterday that the NLD Central Executive Committee would decide whether or not to meet with the MUP.

“After looking at the report of the Central Executive Committee, If they go to that state, I have to go. If they say to come here (Mon State) again, and if they say  the meeting can be somewhere else, I will [comply]. It depends on the Central Executive Committee. I can’t decide which State to go to next. I have to go with the decision of the Central Executive Committee, “ said Dr. Aung Moe Nyo.

Nai Laye TamaI noted the  Mon Unity Party is ready to discuss issues with all parties and that talks can only be successful if there is mutual compromise.

“In politics, there must be mutual respect between each other, and then negotiations can be a success. If the talks fail now, I see a weakening of the political culture,” he added.

A previously arranged meeting scheduled to take place in Mawlamyine between the Mon Unity Party and the National League for Democracy (NLD) was canceled due to disagreements about the venue.
