Four different religious groups gathered at the Mawlamyine University, in Mon State’s Mawlamyine Capital, to hold remembrance ceremony of the July 7.
“This has been 58 times already as the military crackdown [on students] took place back on July 7, in 1962. The people come to this gathering are from Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism groups. “said Min ThanZin Oo, chair of Mawlamyine University’s student union.
The event is held to commemorate by the new generation as honoring the student leaders who were fallen in fighting for the democracy.
“This event is to commemorate of the student leaders who lost their lives on July 7, 1962, and to honor those who fight for the democracy. For the new generation, those student leaders are the ones who really fought for the democracy,” said Ko Khant Zin, in-charge of Foreign Affair, of Mawlamyine University’s Student Union.
