The central celebration of the 73rd Mon National Day (MND) will be held in Mawlamyine on February 9th this year. Organizers of the event are calling for a traditional dance and singing contests, as well as a Ms. Mon contest.
Contestants for the Mon traditional dance, called “Suvarnabhumi” must compete with 16 members. The same number of dancers are also required for the “Mon Basic Dance” contest, which is geared for those 12 years of age or younger. . For the ancient folk dance, the contestants must bring their own instruments. All contestants are expected to represent their respective townships.
The singing contest will be divided into two different vocal types; monophonic Mono [female/male] and stereophonic Stereo [female/male]. Each section includes four songs, and contestants are required to learn all four songs. However the song selection at the event will be determined by drawing lots.
The Mon traditional musical instruments contest will involve four types of instruments: Crocodile Zither or Migyaung, Bamboo Xylophone, Bamboo flute, and Harp. Each performance will be allotted five minutes.
Ms. Mon contestants must be between the ages of 18 to 25 and be Mon speakers. Contestants are expected to represent their townships, and must coordinate with the Mon National Day organizing committee in their respective townships.

The central celebration of Mon National Day is held every year on the 1st Waning of Tabodwe and is held annually in respective townships across Mon state. This year, 73rd MND (central) will be held near Mon State Hluttaw, and near Thanlwin Park in Mawlamyine for three days.
