The second session of the Mon Political Conference is scheduled to be held for three days in the Mon State’s capital Mawlamyine starting on May 12 and the constitution for the Mon National Representative Party will be discussed and approved during the conference, according to Nai Ta La Nyi from the Mon National Party Implementation Committee.
“During this political conference, the first point is to discuss and approve the constitution for the Mon National Representative Party. The second point is to implement the Mon National Representative Party,” said Nai Ta La Nyi.
Participants of the previous conference and people who are interested in Mon nationalism and those that should be invited will be invited to the conference.
“The organizing committee will send the invitations in line with procedure. It depends on respective parties on whether or not they attend the conference,” Nai Ta La Nyi added.
However, the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMRDP) did not attend the previous session of the Mon Political Conference, which was held last January, and announced its refusal to recognize the outcome of the conference. The Mon National Party (MNP) also denied the meeting with the Mon National Representative Party Implementation Committee by claiming that it was focusing on the party merger.
Nai Win Zaw, director of Sanpya Civil Society Organization, advised political parties and political groups outside the parties to overcome the political arena where they seem to be competing with each other and called on them to cooperate for national politics.
“We need to see national politics and party politics differently. We can’t proceed with party politics, but it should be placed under a small sector. National politics should be placed under a big sector. Priority should be given to Mon nationalism,” he said.
The Mon Political Conference was held on January 13 and set down a decision to implement the Mon National Representative Party within six months.
Over 800 people including monks, literature and culture associations, Ramanya forces, civil society organizations, youth organizations, politicians, border and overseas group, fine arts group, and experts attended the conference.
