The Hanthawaddy Kingdom’s ancient capital Bago will host the 72nd Mon National Day central ceremony on the first waning day of Tabodwe next year.
“The Mon National Day is marked after the history of the establishment of Hanthawaddy capital city (Bago). That’s why we decided to hold the Mon National Day central [ceremony] here and we made the offer to the 71st Central Organizing Committee,” said Nai Soe Thein, chair of the Bago Region Mon National Day Central Organizing Committee.
He continued that committee will start searching for funds for the ceremony and request the budget from the Bago Regional government.
He believes his committee will not face many difficulties in getting the budget for the Mon National Day ceremony despite a low number of Mon population in Bago.
“Forty representatives from the Bago Region attended our ceremony on the night of the second waning day of Tabodwe. They pledged on the stage to host it next year,” said U Chit Oo, chair of the 71st Mon National Day Central Organizing Committee.
The Mon National Day central ceremonies are held annually in respective townships in turn and the 70th ceremony was held in Kyaikmaraw and the 69th ceremony was held at Kamar Mo Village on the Bilu Island.
