Four soldiers, broken away from All Burma’s Students Democratic Front (ABSDF), gave up their arms to Ye Town based Tatmadaw (Burma Army), on Thursday.
The disarmed four soldiers are from a splinter group of ABSDF, and the splinter group is active in southern Ye Township and along Maloa Taung (Mountain) between the border of Mon State and Tenasserim Division.
The four soldiers, led by Major U Thant Soe, handed over their arms at Military Operation Headquarter No. 19 at 10 AM, on April 28, in Ye Town.
“This group has been active for a long time. The way they live and are active is very confusing. Although they are from ABSDF, they also cooperate with former members of New Mon State Party (NMSP). They also work with a Karen armed group. And, considered themselves working for environmental preservation, they are based there,” said Ko Soe Thein, a resident of Ye Town.
It is unknown that how many soldiers that ABSDF breakaway group has but its men have traveled around with their trucks and conducting their businesses around the Ye Township, according to Ye Township locals.
The disarmed weapons include two pistols, 1 six-shooter and 4 hand-grenades, according to a source close to Tatmadaw.
It remains unknown what support and what resettlement program the Tatmadaw (Burma Army) would provide the disarmed group.
