Six people have been murdered and six more injured by 41-year old Nai Yon in a knife attack last Monday [April 4] in Wae Win-kara Village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State. The man also set fire to his house prior to the attack.
Among the six people killed were five men and one woman. The injured civilians were sent to Thanbyuyzayat Hospital and Moulmein Hospital, according to Nai Thet Naung, administrator of Wae Winkara Village.
“Nai Yon is not totally abnormal. Sometimes, he argues with his family members. His sister and uncle are also among the people he murdered,” said Nai Thet Naung.
However, it was reported that the perpetrator was a drug user and intoxicated during the incident.
“Nai Yon first set his house on fire. After that, he went to cut Nai Lwin’s throat. At that time, no one knew he’d set his house on fire. However, during that time, he moved through neighbouring houses stabbing and killing each person,” said Nai Ah Htaw, who witnessed the incident.
Four houses were burnt since Nai Yon caused the fire.
Nai Yon also killed a local soldier [militia] after he stole his AK47 rifle. He was later shot dead by a joint force of police officers from Thanbyuzayat Town and security soldiers from Wae-kali based Military Advance Training School.
Of the six killed people, were 40 year old Nai Aung Tun, 40 year old Nai Lwin, 80 year old Nai Htun Kyi, 60 year old local militia Nai Sein Khine and Daw Thant Su, Nai Yon’s wife, is 60.
