Mon State’s 13th annual Medical Conference was organized by the Moulmein branch of the Myanmar Medical Association last week for senior doctors to discuss recent medical developments with young healthcare professionals.
“It is necessary to organize an event like this because medical practices change often. It is not the same from one year to the next. By organizing this kind of event, young doctors will be able to improve their knowledge and be more effective when providing medical treatments,” said Dr. Myint Htay from Mottama Town.
Ten senior doctors from Rangoon Region and Karen and Mon States spoke at the 2-day conference that began last Friday at Ngwe Moe Hotel in Moulmein, the capital of Mon State. Discussions covered 13 health topics including surgery, diabetes and hypertension, particularly since the latter two afflict many people in Mon State.
“Young doctors may be unable to access books and internet [while practicing medicine around Mon State], but because senior doctors share their experience and theories, they can acquire this knowledge immediately instead of in one month. It is more effective since they can ask senior doctors things they’re not clear about and get answers. It is also useful for them to apply this knowledge when they provide treatment to patients,” said Dr. U Myo Win, the chairman of organizing committee for the 13th Medical Conference.
Dr. Myo Win added that doctors from the Myanmar Medical Association convene medical conferences annually in the different states and regions.
In attendance at the Mon State conference were around 160 doctors from Rangoon Region and Karen and Mon States.
