Reported by Aik Sai, U Min Aung Thu, candidate of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), filed a suit against the three teachers, including the head of polling station, in Waelan

Village,Chaungzone Township, Mon State, for falsifying two advanced votes.

“In Waelan Village, there are 40 advanced votes. Of which, 8 votes are for National League for Democracy (NLD), 2 votes for Mon National Party (MNP), 27 votes for USDP, and 2 votes for All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP). That’s what was first confirmed by everyone at the polling station. The witnesses also left the station after giving their signatures. But when we return, the votes are not as before, they’ve changed. Representatives of the polling station found out that matter and that one left-out vote and one vote from my 27 votes were taken away. At first, the NLD has only 8 votes, but now it has 10. So, that is why I file a suit against them,” said U Min Aung Thu, the USDP candidate, who competed for Pyithu Hluttaw constituency in Chaungzone Township.

According to Changzone Township Police Station, the suspects facing lawsuits are Daw Aye Win, head of the polling station, Daw Aye Aye Soe, vice-head of the station, and Daw Cho Cho Htwe, who checked the votes. All suspects are teachers. The suit is (Pa) 227/2015, and article 59 (Ga) of Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law.

“The list is different when it is checked again compared to the original form (16). So, the polling station officials negotiated how to solve the matter. At the time, only some members of polling station were at the station as the rest already went back home. The head and secretary of the Ward/Village Election Commission arrive at the station. So, through a special technique, because it is necessary to have the same of form (16) list and ballot paper list, the list of form (16) is erased, while the final checked vote list is fixed and put back again. At the time, 9 officials agreed to do so. So, the officials come to report to our commission with the solution that the officials fix the form (16) and ballot paper become matched,” said Changzone Township Election Sub-commission.

For the Pyithu Hluttaw Constituency, in Changzone Township, Daw Khin Htay Kyaul, of the NLD, received 23,580 votes, defeating USDP’s U Min Aung Thu, who tallied 16,613 votes. In Waelan Village’s polling station alone, U Min Aung Thu receuved 209 votes, while Daw Khin Htay Kyaul won 226 votes.

Meanwhile, on the election day, the Administrator of Hangan Village, Ye Township, drove away the Ward/Village Election Commission from the polling station. Due to that, the MNP’s three candidates, who competed in the area, reported the incident to the local police station.
