Reported by Guiding Star, The English Access Micro-scholarship Program will be opened for a second time and supported by the American Embassy in Rangoon, according to an announcement made at the event at Dharthumarlar Monastery, in Moulmein Capital of Mon State, on November 20.

The program is for young people, aged 16-18, who have passed their Grade 10 [matriculation exams]. After the selection is made a two-year program will be provided to them with support from the American embassy.

“The main focus should be on the students during the teaching time. This also includes the activities of the students exchanging one another’s work. The students will also have group activities or in pairs. They will also have outside-class activities in order to connect with the community,” said Daw Thuzar Thwin, of U.S Embassy.

The applicants of the program will first have to take exams and then will be interviewed. As recognized, the qualified students will now be selected and admitted to the program. Those other selected new qualified students will have to wait to start the class, until other students drop out.

The program is not for a specific nationality and everyone can apply and study, with no discrimination against religions. Those, who study hard and are smart, can be selected to study aboard, while they will be also involved in youth seminars in the U.S.

“When it comes to summer, summer camp will be provided to students and they will make more friends. This can also contribute to the community. Just like that, the students will have new experiences and new ideas,” said Maung Kaung Myat Thu, who studied in the first program.

The English Access Microsholarship Program is now open across the country, including in Myitkyina, Mandalay, Moulmein, and Hpa-an, while it will also open in Loikaw, Karenni State.
