After a six-year streak as the best performing high school in matriculation exam results, Mon State is now ranked !–more–
second. The nationwide high school exam results were announced on June 6.
For the 2014-2015 academic year, 18,170 students took the matriculation exams in Mon State, but only 7886 passed the exams. Thus, the Mon state pass rate is 43.40%, which falls behind the Irrawaddy Division pass rate, as the division has the highest percentage of students passing the exams at 51.78%.
“Our [Mon] State is now ranked second after it had the highest pass rates for six years continuously. It was a kind of important tradition[of the state]. So, in this upcoming academic year, to regain the best performance, we have to bring energy from the beginning and we have to collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, students’ parents and teachers,” said U Myo Tin Aung, the director of Mon State Education Department.
As for the grading of townships in Mon State, Mudon Township is ranked number one with 63.08%, followed by Thanbyuzayat Township with 53.68%, and Moulmein Township with 47.89% in third place.
Nationwide, Irrawaddy Division performed best with 51.78%, while Mon State is ranked second with 43.40%, followed by Magway Division with 40.86%, and Rangoon Division in fourth place with 37.16%.
Of those who passed the exams, 20 students received six [subjects] distinctions, 60 students received 5 distinctions, 224 students earned 4 subject distinctions, 293 students received 3 distinctions, 400 students acquired 2 distinctions, while 1646 students obtained one distinction.
According to Mon State Education Department, Mon State fell behind the Tenassersim Division and ranked second in 2007-2008 academic year. However, it had been known as the best performer for several years before that, and it regained its highest pass rate in the 2008-2009 academic year and ran as best performer for six years till 2013-2014 academic year.
About six hundred thousand (600,000) students participate in the high school matriculation exams annually, and the national pass rate is above 30% every year.
