Khitar Non – Nine candidates were selected for the Township Development Committee (TDC) in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, according to U Tun Myit Kyaw, who was chosen as the chairman of the TDC.

The Township Aiding Committee chose U Tun Myit Kyaw as the TDC chairman, out of 4 civilians and 5 members of the government, U Tun Myit Kyaw told IMNA.

The remaining 8 candidates that were selected will be appointed to other TDC positions. Some of these individuals included: U Tun Myit Kyaw (U Min Latt), U Min Tun Win, U Aung Shwe, U Aung Than, U Min Tun Win, U Aung Shwe, and U Aung Than.

The head of TDC was re-appointed as secretary, the former TDC former vice-administer, Township Health official, the head of Animal Feeding and Health Care and the head of Department of Land and Survey were also selected as members.) 

TAC sent invitation letters to political parties, the heads from 41 village tract administrations and other influential individuals inviting them to submit their names.

Out those that submitted 16 were selected by secret ballot. The final 9 were decided based on their qualifications. When the final decision was made for TDC chairman it was narrowed down to 4 individuals, according to U Tun Myit Kyaw.

“Selecting TDC membership like this never happened since the period of the Burma Socialist Program Party,” said U Myo, a member of Burma Lawyer Committee, “this is a very good sign.”

During the military regime civilians were not allowed take part in municipal politics.

The TDC held a welcoming ceremony for all its new members on May 28 in Thanbyuzayat, Mon state.
