Jury Chai : 5 acres of golf club land at Three Pagoda Pass (TPP), at the Thai-Burmese border, was sold to private local businessman on January 9th.
The land was sold by the TPP Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) and Tactical Operation Command Colonal Thein Zaw. It was sold for 1.5 million baht to two businessmen, explained an observer from TPP.
“Yes, it was sold on January 9 for 1.5 million baht. The gold land was meant to be turned into a playground but now it’s been sold,” explained the observer. The land sold is located in front of the Burmese Police Station.
The two businessmen who bought the land are U Ye Myint from Quarter No.2 in TPP and U Thein Hun from Quarter No.3.
The observer explained to IMNA that the local authorities confiscated the land from local residents to turn the area into a golf club. The Burmese authorities profited from the sale of this land while the local land owners received no compensation.
A TPP resident explained that the new owners plan to allow Thai businessmen to build bungalows, restaurants and other buildings on the newly acquired land.
Once the Thai businessmen finish building they will have to pay land fees to the Burmese businessmen.
