Tala Chan : Mon National Day (MND) on February 19, 2011 will be held at Thanphyuzayart Town reported a 64th MND information officer.
The 64th MND Committee (MNDC) will be run by three chairman, one general secretary and three vice-secretaries.
Nai Min Min, an information officer from the 64th MNDC explained, “The three chairmen who will take responsibility [for the 64th MND] are Nai Seik Lon (Moulmein): chairman-1, a representative from Thanphyuzayart Town, and chairman-2: Nai Hong Dein (Mudon).”
Though the general secretary has not yet been chosen, Vice-Secretary No. 1 is Nai Pan Hlaing from Moulmein, Vice-Secretary No. 2 is Nai Yeh Tama from Thanphyuzayart, and Vice-Secretary No. 3 is Nai Long Tin from Kawkareik, Karen State reported Nai Min Min.
The Working Committee (MNDC) of the 64th MND has 37 members chosen at the 64th MND meeting in Moulmein on November 16th.
According to an attendant at the meeting, “The townships which have yet to hold Mon National Day are Paung and Thanphyuzayart Townships, that’s why the committee made the decision to hold the celebration in Thanphyuzayart Town.”
In previous years, the MNDC has had to deal with provisions and censuring by the Burmese government. The 63rd MND was held in Lamine Sub-township, Ye Township, in which the MNDC was ordered to remove a paragraph in Burmese on Mon National Day posters that recounted the rise and fall of the ancient Mon kingdom. Whereas for the 62nd MND, which was held in Chaung Zone Township, the MNDC had to rewrite speeches which were originally written about Mon national unity and Mon education, more specifically the fight to use Mon language in schools.
