MUP joins Mon State Administrative Council

-

Mon United Party (MUP) representatives have joined the Mon State Administrative Council.

MUP Joint Secretary, Nai Layae Tama (aka) Naing Khin Maung Zin said “ I chose to join the council because I was worried that [not participating]  would endanger the lives of the Mon people, and would lead to bloodshed.”

The former Mon State Cabinet Secretary and Mon State YMBA Chairman, U Zaw Lin Tun also joined the Mon State Administrative Council. Dr Thin Htay was originally appointed, but resigned.

Chair of the Mon State Administrative Council is led by the military’s proxy, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) member, U Aung Kyi Thein.

Dr. Banyar Aung Moe was chosen to be the  MUP central representative to the State Administrative Council, but there are reports that he has instead been offered a position within the new established Union Election Commission.

MUP member, U Khin Maung Myint, joined the Tanintharyi Administrative Council.

Many Mon people are deeply opposed to the MUP decision.
