According to reports from the Ye Police Station, a 16 years old male was arrested for possession of illegal drugs in the afternoon of January 11, 2021. The arrest took place at the boys home in Sone Nathar village, Ye Township. Police seized 70 pills of a drug called Yaba.
“After getting information [relevant to the case], we arrested him and found 70 pills. This case is being [pursued] under the law,” said Chief of Police Win Myint at the Ye Town Police Station.
Ko Aung Ning Win, who lives in Ye town, said, “[drugs] are used by many young people who are underage …yet when prosecuted they end up being sent to youth sport centers. Such young men should not be forgiven. In my experience, boys as young as 13 and 14 years are using these drugs. They should be charged under the child law.”
The 16 years old, was charged under Section 19 (K) of the Criminal Procedure Code MY(P) 3/2021.
In another unrelated case a 15 years old male , was arrested with 5 kilos of kratom leaves in Karoppi village, Thanbyuzayat Township, on January 3.
