On December 19th, Mawlamyine University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in the United States, according to Mawlamyine University Assistant Professor Dr. Mi Mi Sein.
The MOU outlines an exchange program allowing students and teachers from both countries to learn about each others. The educational exchange with the United States-based Purdue University will lead to more advanced education systems and other opportunities.
“Purdue University is one of the universities that focus on language skills. Purdue University will assist with the acquisition of skills so that [Mawlamyine University students studying] English will improve,” said Dr. Mi Mi Sein, assistant professor.
Dr. Mi Mi Sein added that in the future, there will be more opportunities and exchange programs in cultural, business, tourism and other sectors.
“The educational exchange between Myanmar and the United States helps to build a long-term friendship between the two countries,” said Chancellor Mr. Ron Elsenbaumer from Purdue University.
“We exchange knowledge for the development of our cities, universities, and countries. We have a chance to study the two countries. To prolong the friendship between Myanmar and the United States, teachers and students will obtain an opportunity to study in Forty Wayne while teachers and students will have a chance to come and study in Myanmar,” added Chancellor Mr. Ron Elsenbaumer.
Purdue University offers courses in 200 different fields of study to 10,000 students.
