The fifth celebration of Mon Youth Day will be held in Waegaru Village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State on December 28.
The aim of the event is to strengthen unity among Mon youth and raise the national spirit. The fifth Mon Youth Day will be conducted along the field wall of the ancient Waegaru City, now known as Waegaru Village.
“This is mainly an event for the Mon youths to recognize. This event is run for Mon youths to establish unity with each other, to lessen the consumption of drugs among young Mon people and eventually have zero drug use among Mon youths,” said Ashin Warsawa, a member of the organizing committee of the fifth Mon Youth Day.
December 28 marks Mon Youth Day, since the first conference was held for the pre-armed revolution for the freedom of Mon people at Kyaikhtoik, in Mon State’s Capital Mawlamyine, formerly known as Moulmein, in 1946. The Mon Youth Day then began in 2012 and is being held every two-years.
The organizing committee of the fifth Mon Youth Day celebration is estimated to spend 12,000,000 Kyat for the celebration but so far the committee has only received 7,000,000 Kyat. In order to reach the estimated amount, the committee is currently contacting Mon donors, Mon communities, and other donors in the country and abroad, according to Mi Sorn Chai, member of organizing committee.
The fourth celebration of Mon Youth Day was held in Kawpain Village, Kawkareik Township, Karen State, and approximately 250,00000 Kyat was spent for the event.
The Mon Youth Day was held in Taungpauk Village, Kyarinnseikkyi Township, in 2012, followed in Mawkanint Village, Ye Township, in 2013, and Haneepadaw Village, Mudon Township, in 2014, and then in Kawpain Village, Kawkareik Township, in 2015.
