After eight months, uncertainty reigns over Mon State Chief Minister

-

Several readers may remember the fact Mon State Chief Minister U Min Min Oo told reporters at the National League for Democracy (NLD)’s 6th Regular Meeting of First-Central Committee on November 12, as stating that if NLD officials would resign him from the chief minister post, he would do so immediately.

However, the Chief Minister didn’t divulge the reasons why he wanted to resign from the post of Mon State’s Chief Minister.

On November 28, the NLD Headquarters’ Central Executive Committee announced that the party formed a review group aimed at studying the issues within Mon State and Tenasserism Division, making reassessments and then reporting back to the Party.

The NLD’s review group is led by U Nyan Win, member of the party’s central executive committee and will primarily study matters concerned with government officials and Hluttaw representatives of Mon State and Tenasserism Division.

Accusations have been viral on social networking sites, such as Facebook, that the Chief Minister only wanted to meet with reporters once per month, met with major cronies at night, and fraudulently requested for days off at Hluttaw [Parliament], etc. etc.

In brief, it can be stated that it is the weakness of the NLD’s chief minister for being unable to control the Mon State Hluttaw, which has a NLD majority.

It is NLD’s decision to have the chief minister continue his post or not. The people of Mon State are now keeping their eyes open as to whether the chief minister will continue his work or if a new chief minister will be appointed.
