The Mon State’s Department of Rural Development called for tenders on three rural development projects on Tuesday [April 26]. The projects will focus on roads, bridges and water distribution.

The bridge development project includes 11 cement-bridges (with 439 feet) and 1 wooden bridge with 40 feet. Additionally, a water-distribution project includes 12 shallowed-wells, 20 deep-wells, 17 hand-dug wells and 8 lakes, according to an announcement by the state’s Department of Rural Development calling for tenders from companies based in Mon State.

“In this 2016-2017 fiscal year, the projects that the Department of Rural Development would implement, with the aid of fundraising, would focus on roads, bridges and water-distribution. We are now opening the tender process. For transparency and public information, we’ve made the announcement in the newspapers,” said U Myo Kyi, the director of Department of Rural Development.

U Myo Kyi continued that the tender committee will inform the respective state government departments and headquarters about the successful tender applicants.

Companies applying for the tenders will submit a copy of the company’s registration [license] and profile, along with the project outlay, design forms and detailed drawing of the project, as recognized by the rural development ministry, according to the project tender announcement.

The tender application forms are available from April 26 to May 26 at the Department of Rural Development, according to the Department of Rural Development Department.

“After the application process, we will report to the Pyidaungsu [government]. From there, we will assign the projects based on the allocated budget. Now, regarding the tender process, the ministry itself isn’t conducting it but it is in accordance with the [country’s] policy. This is an opportunity for private sector improvement. Especially, the priority must be given to the companies in Mon State,“ U Win Naing, vice-director of Department of Rural Development.

The companies that are offered the tenders will have to provide 5 percent of the project-value as a warranty to the department of rural development. If the companies do not win the tenders they will only be given back 1 percent of the project as a warranty.

There have been various comments that Mon State’s last government announced that foreign [non-Mon-state] investors would not take the tenders after it called for a bill of its respective projects. However, it was later found out that such companies outside of Mon State were offered the tenders.
