Gov’t unable to provide electricity in Ye Tsp under 2016-2017 budget

Mon State government is unable to provide electricity to Ye Township with its 2016-2017 budget, according to a press conference by Mon State’s Electric Power and Energy and Industry Ministry on Monday.

Ye Township is located in the far south of Mon State and bordering Tenasserim Division’s Yebyu Township. At the moment, the locals in the township are being supplied electricity from private electricity generators.

At the moment, the supply cable line reaches Thanbyuzayat Township. Only after the cable line is connected to Tenasserism Divison will Ye Township be able to access the electricity.

“We have a plan to connect the cables up to Tenassersm Division. However, we do not know the amount allowed in the budget from this year yet. Regardless, we will do our testing, measuring and observation. If there is a rubber plantation on the planned cable supply route, we have to clear it. After that, we will have the budget to pile up the cables in order to connect“, said Minister U Min Htin Aung Han of Electric Power and Energy and Industry Ministry at the press conference on April 25.

Although the electric power and industry ministry is testing to connect the electric poles to Ye Township, there is yet a budget to have the electricity connected.

The locals in Ye Town and other areas across the township are charged high prices because they are using the electricity supplied by private electric generators, according to locals.

“The public wants access to electricity. We already discussed this matter at the Hluttaw. The house speaker and deputy speaker recorded this too. We will know about this in June,” said U Chit Tin, State Hluttaw representative, from Ye Township Constitutency (2).

The Myanmar Lighting Company in Mon State has surplus electricity in addition to its production use. Therefore, after connecting the cable, Ye Township can have access to the electricity, according to electric power and industry ministry.
