Mon State Gov’t ministers, auditor and advocate inaugurated

-

Mon State’s newly appointed government ministers, the auditor-general and advocate were sworn in before the house speaker Daw Tin Tin Ei yesterday [March 4], during the fifth day of the first Hluttaw Regular Session. The inauguration was held at Mon State Hluttaw, in Moulmein the capital of Mon State.

The 6 state ministers — plus 3 ministers for ethnic affairs and one chief minister — include Dr. Min Kyi Win, from the Mon National Party (MNP) and ministers from the National League for Democracy (NLD).

“At the moment, I don’t have much in mind. Here [in Mon State], an important issue is the coal-fired power plant. First, we want to handle [and solve] this issue,” said Dr. Min Kyi Win, who is appointed as the Minister overseeing natural resources and environmental conservation.

Upon the request of Chief Minister U Min Min Oo to undertake the Ministry of City Development and Construction, a State Hluttaw representative Dr. Aung Naing Oo, also a reelected representative of All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMDP), from Chaungzone Township Constituency (1), affirmed that there is no article under the 2008 constitution (Union Level) stating that the State Chief Minister could take on an extra minister position, in addition to chief minister post. Adding that holding two positions could cause confusion regarding completing tasks.

“I have no objections to the list of the 7 minister nominees submitted by the State Chief Minister. Interestingly, out of all the listed ministers, one is U Min Min Oo. U Min Min Oo is already holding the post of Chief Minister,” said Dr. Aung Naing Oo, recommended an evaluation on whether the Chief Minister U Min Min Oo would be again nominated as a State Minister along with other state ministers.

The Chief Minister U Min Min Oo replied that he would like to undertake the Ministry of City Development and Construction, in addition to being Chief Minister, in order to reduce the budget.

However, the State Hluttaw has decided that U Min Min Oo will only manage the Ministry of Civil Development and Construction.

Appointed ministers and their respective posts are as follows;

1) U Min Min Oo: Chief Minister and Ministry of City Development [Municipal] and Construction

2) Dr. Htein Linn: Ministry of Social Welfare

3) Min Htin Aung Han: Ministry of Electric Power and Energy and Industry

4) U Wonna Kyaw: Ministry of Planning, Finance and Immigration

5) U Tun Htay: Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and Transportation

6) Dr. Min Kyi Win: Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation

7) Colonel Win Naing Oo: Ministry of Security and Border Affair

8) U Shwe Myint: Ministry of Bamar Ethnic Affair

9) Saw Aung Myint Khine: Ministry of Karen Ethnic Affair

10) Daw San Wint Khine: Ministry of Pa Oh Ethnic Affair

11) Daw Aye Aye Moe: State Advocate

During the fifth day of the first Hluttaw Regular Session, at Mon State Hluttaw, the announcement of the respective committees were also made, including committees on legislation, ethnic affairs as well as petition, request and submission letters.
