Newly appointed Chief Minister criticized for lack of experience

Various Mon State Hluttaw representatives have criticized the new Chief Minister appointed by the Mon State Hluttaw yesterday. The central argument focuses on his lack of political experience.

U Min Min Oo, elected in Belin Township (2) Constituency, was first appointed as deputy speaker, but the Mon State Hluttaw have decided to appoint him Chief Minister.

“I just read his biography today and I think he doesn’t have much political experience,” said Dr.Min Kyi Win, of Mon National Party (MNP) and who is a State Hluttaw representative.

NLD nominated U Min Min Oo for the post of Mon State Chief Minister because he’s honest and hard working, according to representatives from the National League for Democracy (NLD).

“It is the fate of Mon State. He doesn’t talk much and he doesn’t want to connect with people. Furthermore, he doesn’t have much experience. To speak frankly, that is a weak spot,” said Min Aung Mon, of Union Solidarity and Development Party, and who is also a State Hluttaw representative.

Before the NLD submitted the nominee list for the new chief minister of Mon State, people in the state expected that either Dr. Aye Zan or Min Htin Aung Han would be most likely nominated for the post.

“To speak openly, this was directed by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. If it is okay with them, we will comply. We will inform our party as the people wish. Regarding the administration sector, the government will lead but the party will direct it. The party will guide Hluttaw representatives. The party will also dictate what kind of laws shall be drawn,” said Min Htin Aung Han, State Hluttaw representative from NLD.

Min Htin Aung Han added that the people trusted Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Therefore, the people will also accept the Chief Minister that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has chosen.

U Min Min Oo is 46 years old, holder of a B.E (Electronics), from Taungzone Village, Belin Township, Mon State. He is the vice-chairman of Belin Township’s NLD and head of finance for Belin Township’s rubber plantation association as well as a member of the management committee of Taungzone Administrative Hospital.
