Green Bike to exchange environmental concerns with Parlain residents

-

An environmental group, the Green Bike, will meet with locals in Anddin Village, Parlian Region, Ye Township, Mon State, to discuss their environmental concerns.

The biking campaign will run over 4 days from February 1 to 4 and the tour will start in Thanbyuzayat Town, heading south from Mon State to Tenasserim Division.

“First, we will start the tour on February 1, biking from Thanbyuzayat Town. On the way, we will drop by Mon villages. At night, we will stay in Anndin Village, where a coal-fired plant is proposed to be constructed. The next day we will head to Yarbuu [Village] in Tenasserim Division. We will also stop by the nearby villages after we get to Yarbuu. The tour will finish on the 4th day,” said Ko Phone Myant Han, an environmental activist from Ye Town.

As per its plan, the Green Bike will drop by villages along the away and meet with villagers to exchange views on environmental issues. When night falls, the group will gather with locals and sing songs related to the environment.

“The objective is for the Green Bike to observe environmental situations. The group will also urge the locals to ride bikes,” added Ko Phone Myat Han.

Ko Phone Myat Han added that about 15 members of the Green Bike will take the tour and the group will visit the villages as much as it could.

The Green Bike takes tours to the areas that are facing environmental issues. In 2013, in cooperation with local groups from Tavoy area, the Green Bike went to the Tavoy Deep-sea Port area.
