Final Mon State Hluttaw session held

The thirteenth and last conference of the Mon State Hluttaw was held yesterday, January 28, as newly elected Hluttaw representatives will hold their first conference on February 8.

“We have accomplished the tasks of our term. We also saw benefits in accordance with the law. Now, although we want to continue the service, we just cannot do that anymore,” said Nai Kyin Pe, the [outgoing] Chairman of Mon State Hluttaw.

Nai Kyin Pe continued that respective representatives from various states were invited to the Pyidaungsu (Union) Hluttaw, Pyithu Hluttaw, and Amyotha Hluttaw conferences. The first newly represented Mon State Hluttaw conference will take place on February 8.

At the conference, the Hluttaw representatives discussed the 2016-17 fiscal year, drafted laws for Mon State’s regional projects and drafted laws for financial handling.

During the last term, Hluttaw held 18 meetings comprised of 13 regular sessions, 3 special conferences and 2 urgent conferences.

460 questions were asked during the 18 meetings and respective ministers answered the relevant questions. Overall, 122 cases were documented, 97 cases were approved while the Hluttaw accomplished 40 [articles of] Laws and 15 Law techniques. Additionally, 45 proposals were submitted, 41 cases were presented and 39 cases were decided.

Dr. Aung Naing Oo, a re-elected State Hluttaw representative, was absent at the conference because he was invited to the new Pyidaungsu [Union] Hluttaw conference. Guesting as a special observer to Nay Pyi Taw joining the conference.

At the conference, in attendance were 23 representatives elected by the people and 8 representatives from the military. During the five years, one representative passed away and there were a few position changes in security and border ministries.

The first regular Mon State Hluttaw session of was held for 8 days, starting on January 31, 2011. At the first session, the representatives were appointed their respective positions including Hluttaw Chairman, vice-chairman and 9 ministers for 9 respective ministries.
