The planning committee for Mon language curriculum provides training for various teaching methods in Mon language to 400 teachers. Allowing the teachers to gain qualifications and eventually teach at government primary schools.
The training is divided into two classes with 200 teachers in each class. The first class started on January 23 and finished on January 26 while the second class is open from January 28 to 31.
“As far as we know, the teachers, teaching Mon language at government schools, do not have adequate Mon language teaching skills. So, we would like to provide the teachers with teaching techniques that will not bore the kids but instead, learn easily. They will be able to use the methods in this next academic term,” said Nai Rot Gakho, of Mon Language Curriculum planning committee.
The training is provided at Basic Education High School No.1, in Moulmein, the capital of Mon State. Around 11 teacher trainers, including trainers from Mon National Education Department, Mon Literature and Culture Committee and Moulmein Education College, conduct the training.
“We offer this training for the participating teachers to get a clear understanding of Mon grammar as it is different from Burmese grammar as well as how to use the new Mon textbook with child centred teaching methods,” said teacher trainer Mi More More Chai.
The 200 teachers who participated in the first training are from government schools located in Paung, Chaungzone, Moulmein, Thanbyuzayat, Mudon and Kyaikmayaw townships. The remaining 200 teachers to join the second training will be from Ye Township and Tenasserim Division as well as some respective townships in Karen State.
