Handgun, bullets seized at ward administrator house

A joint-force raid of U Hla Htein’s home, the administrator of Ward 1 in Kawsar Town, Ye Township, Mon State, found a revolver and ammunition, according to Ye Township Police Chief.

Last Tuesday night, December 15, a joint-force from Military Operation Command (MOC-19), based in Ye Town, and Infantry Battalion No. (IB) 31, located in Kawsar Town, raided the ward administrator’s house, in Kawsar Town. The force seized a six-shooter handgun and 19 bullets from the house.

“Now, an investigation is being conducted at Ye Police Station,” said Police Chief Myint Taw.

The Kawsar area in southern Ye Township, Mon State and other regions in northern Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division contain active armed rebel groups who are mobile throughout the jungle and remain largely anonymous. Recently, orchard owners were extorted by those unknown armed groups.

At the moment, the armed group led by Mon Chan is very active in the Kawsar area. On the phone contact list of U Hla Htein, the contact number of Mon Chan was noticed, according to Kawsar Town Administration.

The Ward Administrator U Hla Htein is sued with crime article (Pa) 28/2015 19 (Sa), and the case is now under investigation at Ye Town Police Station.

After the New Mon State Party signed a ceasefire agreement with the government in 1995, several small Mon armed groups, which perpetrate extortion, looting and commandeering from locals, have been active in southern of Ye Township, Mon State and northern Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.
