Reported by Arkar, Dr. Aung Naing Oo, sole All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP) candidate and re-elected representative of State Hluttaw, said he would work hard for the unity of the Mon

political parties, per their poor election results.

Dr. Aung Naing Oo said the above, drawing the example of the united people in Parlain region, at the conference of silver jubilee anniversary of Parlain Region United Association held at Anndin Village’s Monastery, Parlian Region, Ye Township, Mon State last Tuesday (November 10).

“I give Parlain Region as an example due to the fact that when powerful people came in to implement project, which could have caused negative impacts. However, it was prevented by the unity of the residents of Parlain Region. Unity is the core of success. To be able to achieve such unity, from here I promise that I will work hard [for Mon parties’ unity],” said Dr. Aung Naing Oo.

Dr. Aung Naing Oo also said the Mon parties lost votes due to a lack of respect between parties. This extended to zero negotiations nor unity with one another.

“What I want to say is that those Mon who are in politics and lost major votes originally said they are representing Mon people but are not united as leaders,” said Dr. Aung Naing Oo.

In 2015 elections, 35 candidates of the AMDP competed but only one candidate got elected, and that candidate is Dr. Aung Naing Oo. 53 candidates of the Mon National Party (MNP) also competed in the elections but only 3 candidates were elected including Dr. Min Soe Linn, Dr. Min Kyi Win and Nai Soiha. Although 4 candidates of the Women’s Party (Mon) competed, none got elected.

In the 2010 elections, 34 candidates of the AMDP competed and 16 candidates won seats. In 1990 election, 19 members of Mon National Democratic Front (MNDF), which is the former name of the MNP, competed and 5 members won seats.

At the silver anniversary ceremony of Parlain Region United Association, about 300 locals and 30 Mon Buddhist Monks from 7 villages across Parlain region were in attendance. A joint ceremony honoring Dr. Aung Naing Oo was also held.

According to ceremony organizers, the ceremony of honoring Dr. Aung Naing Oo was held because he stood unified with the local people of Parlain Region, when they objected the project of coal-fired power plants to be constructed near Anndin Village, with production capacity of 1280 Mega Watt by Toyo Thai Company , and because he was re-elected in the 2015 elections.
