Reported by Wonsa Mon, Five Mon candidates out of eleven were selected to compete in the 2015 election by representatives from 40 villages, in Ye

Township. The selection took place in front of prominent Mon monks at the recent conference of United All Mon National of Ye Township.

The candidate selection was made at the 2nd conference of All United Mon National of Ye Townshipon on October 6, at Thiri Mingala Monastery, Ye Town.

The five candidates are Nai Chan Toy of All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP) to compete for Pyithu Hluttaw, Dr. Min Soe Lin of Mon National Party (MNP) for State Hluttaw (1), Mi Lawe Han of AMDP for State Hluttaw (2), Nai Aung Ba of AMDP for Mon State (7) Amyotha Hluttaw, and Nai Aung Win, as an independent candidate, to compete for Mon State (8) Amyotha Hluttaw.

“It is mainly focused on how Mon candidates can win the votes and for Mon people not to have difficulties in voting for Mon candidates. So, out of about 10 candidates from both Mon parties in Ye Township, we select 5 candidates, whom we believe can work for the benefits of the people,” said Min Ye Mon, spokesperson of M23, the advocacy group for Mon candidate success in elections.

To ensure Mon candidates avoid division in votes throughout respective constituencies, locals have voted for specific candidates to compete in the elections. The process was aided by prominent Mon monks. The goal is to help more Mon representatives win seats at Hluttaw in the 2015 elections, M23 will help campaign for selected candidates, by urging votes for the selected candidates.

The first conference of United All Mon National of Ye Township was held on August 11, at Mon Hall, in Ye Town. At the conference, they decided to hold the 2nd conference, whereby they would select Mon candidates to compete in the elections.

“For the voters who understand the election process, they already know which candidates they will vote for. But for those who do not understand yet, they are still confused which candidates to vote for. For me, we will urge people to vote for our party,” said Nai Chan Aie Mon, of Ye Township’s MNP.

Nai Chan Aie Mon continued that nevertheless, people should vote for the candidates that they support.

Meanwhile, at the moment, as a mobile music band, a group of Mon musicians are conducting campaigns in respective townships for Mon candidates.
