according to a decision made at the conference of the Burma (Myanmar) Southeast Region Civil Society Organizations (BSERCSOs) held at State Hall in Moulmein, the Capital of Mon State.
The conference was held from September 21-23, which attracted representatives from 114 CSOs from Karenni, Karen and Mon states as well as Tenasserim Division. An additional 455 attendees were Mon and Karen states’ government ministers, Hluttaw representatives, senior delegation (SD) leaders and members, and representatives from 14 International Non-government Organizations (INGO).
“It was agreed and decided as one that it is necessary for BSERCSOs to achieve peace and, in the near future, to join hand-in-hand and carry out projects that benefit the people,” according to the released statement at the conference.
“Civil society organizations are encouraged to cooperate in political talks and the country’s development, after signing the nationwide ceasefire agreement,” said Padoh Naw Zipporah Sein, leader of the SD.
At the conference, it was also urged that the respective organizations participating in the peace process implement genuine peace that guarantees the livelihood of the people and to be able to establish peaceful federal union.
“Because we also want to setup federal union, we have to sacrifice our lives, “ said Khun Myint Htun, chairman of Pa-O National Liberation Organization.
At the conference, the latest circumstances in CSOs’ respective areas and peace implementations were discussed. The documents containing the point of view from presented CSOs on the peace work were also submitted and addressed at the conference.
Other discussed topics at the conference were the peace program and land project issues, the peace program and illegal drug issues, political talks and sectors for CSOs, the peace program and the area of CSO monitoring, the peace program and large development projects, and peace and human security issues.
