snapshot_008Mon State has more than 1.4 million (1400,000) voters who are eligible to cast ballots in the 2015 general elections, according to Mon State Election Commission (EC).

As reported by U Hein Lin Htet, vice-director of the Mon State EC, there are 14,11,398 voters as gathered on the voter-list. However, currently the list is incomplete.

“It is [called] a basic voter-list. We will do education workshops with CSOs (civil society organizations). We will announce voter-lists in two weeks, between June 8-24. But, it [voter-list] is not complete yet. This will be completed if the public helps. We will only put this [voter-list data] on our website after it is completed. If your name is not on the list, you have to apply,” said U Hein Lin Htet.

The Tatmadaw [army] soldiers and their family members, policemen and their family members on external trips exceeding 180 days are not included in the list of basic eligible voter list yet.

The list of eligible voters will be displayed [for the public to find out who the voters are] at 1286 places across Mon State, from June 8 to 24 .

The result of the announced eligible voter-list came after the fourth phase of data collecting was conducted, while the first phase was conducted from November to December 2014, followed by the second phase from December to February 2015, and the third phase from January to March [in the country].

However, in the 2010 elections, there were one million (1,000,000) eligible voters in Mon State. Also, there were mistakes with the voter-list and certain people were not able to cast a vote.Photo caption: Mon State voter-list records (Photo: IMNA)
