DVB to air 15 minute TV program in ethnic languages

-

Democratic Voices of Burma (DVB)’s television department will telecast in Burma’s various ethnic languages beginning on May 11.

The fifteen minute program will be supervised by Burma News International (BNI), which is comprised of several ethnic media groups.

“According to the schedule that we have, the TV session for Mon language will be aired weekly, every Monday. It is an ethnic Mon speaking telecast with Burmese subtitles,” said IMNA’s Managing Editor.

In addition, the Shan language broadcast will be shown on Tuesday (for 15 minutes), while Kachin, Karen, Karenni, Chin, Arakan, and Burmese languages will be aired on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively, according to BNI’s released television schedule.

IMNA’s Managing Editor also stated, “Ethnic media groups need to have lots of experience to be able to expend and broadcast the TV program. So, in order to go to air with better media quality and better programs, ethnic media groups have devoted time to prepare for it.”

IMNA also broadcasts its weekly radio session and TV program on Radio Free Asia (RFA).

In early June, with BNI’s supervision, TV producers and editor training will be provided to ethnic media organisations in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Formed in 2003, BNI now has 13 members, including Independent Mon News Agency (IMNA), Chin World, Kaladan Press, Kantarawaddy Times, Phophtaw News Association, Karen Information Center, Khonumthung News, Narinjara News, Network Media Group, Shan Herald Agency for News, and Than Lwin Times.
