Khithar Non – Youth gathered for the second annual Mon Youth Day in Mawtkanin village, Lamaing Sub-township, Mon state. The Dec. 28 event, which was hosted by representatives from the Mon Youth Forum (MYF) and individuals from respective townships, promoted unity, according to Nai Nyanseik Rarmarn, who serves as MYF’s general secretary.

“We aren’t just holding a ceremony; we will be having a seminar among youths from respective townships in this evening. We will also hold (separate) talks.”

Mon Youth Day celebrates the efforts of youth, politicians and Buddhist monks involved in various community activities, Nai Nyanseik Rarmarn said.

About 10,000 people from Rangoon, Mon and Karen states and Pegu, and Tenasserism divisions were in attendance. These included members of the New Mon State Party, All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP) and Mon Democracy Party.

“Youths are brave. They can give up for everything and are less selfish and (more) hardworking with hope to achieve everything,” AMDP chairman Nai Ngwe Thein said during his speech at the ceremony. They are bright and work hard for their community, said the AMDP chairman.

“We can see Mon youths in one place at this ceremony. For me, I believe that this is the strength of our future,” said Ko Zarnin Hein who traveled from Thanbyuzayat township to attend the event.

The first Mon Youth Day held in Tuangpouk village, Kyarinnseikkyi Township in Karen state, attracted about 3000 participants.
