Khitar Non – Last Wednesday and emergency meeting of the New Mon State Party (NMSP) resulted in a major leadership shuffle of the party’s 27 central committee members. The three-day meeting began on November 13 at NMSP headquarters in Ye Chaung-phya, Mon State.

“Primarily, we have shuffled roles to fill needed positions. We have filled 27 central committee seats,” said Lieutenant colonel Nyan Htun, head of [NMSP’s] relief and development center.

Nyan Htun told IMNA that NMSP former General Secretary Nai Hongsar has been appointed as Vice Chairman, [former] joint General Secretary-1 Nai Aung Ming is now General Secretary, and military chief commander Maj-Gen Joi Yaet has taken Nai Aung Ming’s position. Former Joint General Secretary and Brigadier General Layi Gakao is now military chief commander.

NMSP’s 7-member central military committee has also appointed two new leaders; Lieutenant colonel Hongsar and Lieutenant colonel San Aye.

Reserved central committee members Lieutenant colonel M Seik Chan and Major Kyi San have also been appointed as new members of the central committee.

While the reshuffle was the primary accomplishment of the meeting, party leaders also discussed the government-proposed 25-point plan towards a nationwide ceasefire, as debated during peace talks held in Kachin State capital Myitkyna earlier this month.
