Min Thu Ta — Nai Rot Sa, vice chairman for the New Mon State Party (NMSP), passed away last Saturday night. The vice chairman who was being treated for cancer at Sangkhlaburi Hospital died at 8:20 pm.
Nai Rot Sa first learned that he had cancer in January after being hospitalized at Thingan Kyun Hospital in Rangoon. From there, he was transferred to Bomrongrat Hospital, and in early February the Christian Hospital in Bangkok. Nai Rot Sa later sought medical treatment at the hospital in Sangkhlaburi.
The fourth child of five siblings, Nai Rot Sa was born on December, 1946 to parents U Maung Maung and Daw Pwar Sein in Kalawtaw village, Mudon Township. When he was young his parents called him Min Swe Yin.
From kindergarten to grade 8, Nai Rot Sa studied in Kalawtaw village. He attended grade 9 at Kamarwat B.E.H.S (Basic Education High School) in Kamarwat village. Nai Rot Sa completed grade 10 at Mudon B.E.H.S No. 1, in Mudon Town. After he moved to Yangon (Rangoon) to earn a bachelor of commerce, and then complete his masters both at the Institute of Economics.
During this time (1966-67) Nai Rot Sa served as a general secretary for Mon Literature and Culture Committee at Yangon University.
Upon completing his studies Nai Rot Sa became involved in the underground activities of the NMSP and become a member by 1970. In 1971 he became a member of the NMSP Central Committee and in 1975the central executive committee. Nai Rot Sa was the general secretary for the Nai Shwe Kyin group after the NMSP split into 2 factions.
Once the NMSP factions rejoined, he served as joint-secretary in 1987. Nai Rot Sa was the general secretary in 1989, and in 2003 vice-chairman No. 2. From 2006 to till his death, he served as the vice-chairman.
Nai Rot Sa leaves behind his wife Mi Tanaing Bloi, their 4 daughters and 1 son who live in Myaingtharyar Quarter of Mon state capital of Moulmein.
