Exam passing rate at No. 8 BEHS of Moulmein tops 90 percent

IMNA – The matriculation exam passing percentage of No. 8 Basic Education High School (BEHS) in Moulmein, Mon State, has been reported to be 92.55% for the previous academic year.

Of 161 exam takers at No. 8 BEHS, 149 students passed with 6 six-subject distinctions, 4 five-subject distinctions, 11 four-subject distinctions, 14 three-subject distinctions, 14 two-subject distinctions, and 22 one-subject distinctions, according to the Education Administration Office of Mon State.

“At the State level, our school has stood in first place many times. But there have never been six-subject distinctions and [the exam passing percentage was] never more than 90%. We notably got the highest matriculation exam passing percentage this year,” said a female schoolteacher at No. 8 BEHS.

No. 8 Basic Education High School is a single-sex school for girls, previously known as Saint Mary’s School.

Among Mon State townships, Moulmein ranks in third place with Than Phyu Zayat Township in second. Mudon Township captured first place with a passing percentage of 71.1%.

In all of Mon State, there were 13,796 matriculation exam takers and 7,202 of them passed the exam, for a passing percentage of 52.2%. It was the topmost score in the entire country for the fifth consecutive year.

The passing percentage for all of Burma in the 2011-12 academic year was 35.12%, with more than 160,000 students passing the exam.
