Jaloon Htaw – The Mon National Democratic Front (MNDF) will be renamed as the Mon Democracy Party (MDP) and will formally register with the government, according to Party General Secretary Dr. Min Soe Linn.

“The MNDF will renamed as the MDP and will register. This change demonstrates that the party represents all Mon nationals,” said Dr. Min Soe Lin.

Central Executive Committee Members Nai Soe Myint and Nai Layi Tama have been planning to go to Nay Pyi Daw on April 23 for the party’s registration.

The new name had already been chosen by the MNDF before the 2010 election, according to Party Vice Chairman (2) Nai Tin Aung.

“This name was chosen even before the All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP) registered [with the government]. Now, we will register the party and in 2014, before the 2015 election, the two Mon parties will unite and legalization of the two parties will finalize the union,” said Nai Tin Aung.

On April 22, two Mon parties, the AMDP who contested the 2010 election, and the soon-to-be-registered MDP, determined that December 2014 would be the deadline for the union.

The MNDF was founded in 1988 and contested in the 1990 election with 19 candidates, winning five parliamentary seats; however, its legitimacy was denied in 1992.
