Mon women demand President provide them with a secure life during celebration

IMNA – On 4 March-2012, during the ceremony of the 7th Mon Women Day, Mon women released a statement demanding President TheinSein to provide them with a secure life and that he promote a higher standard of living for the citizens andbring about domestic peace as soon as possible.

The 7th Mon Women Day, organized by the Mon Women Network (MWN), was celebrated today in Japanese Well Village, Three Pagodas Pass Township, on the Thai-Burma border, as well as other places inside Burma.

“The ceremonies have also been celebrated at the NyiSar Camp of the Mon National Education Committee (MNEC), Ye ChaungPhyar. And, it was also cerebrated in Moulmein and most Mon villages,” according toMiAie Son, the president of Mon Youth Progressive Organization (MYPO) – a member of MWN.

The ceremony started 10 AM today at Japanese Well Village and lasted for an hour. Activists related to Mon women issues and over one hundred local residents attended the ceremony.

The history of Mon Women Day, the biography of the Mon Queen MiJao Bu, the statement (of the 7th Mon Women Day) and the formal message from the New Mon State Party (NMSP) Chairman, NaiHtaw Mon, were read during the ceremony.

Meawhile, over two hundred youths cerebrated the Mon Women Day yesterday at the Dammha Hall in Moulmein, according to ceremony organizer Mi Moe Moe.

She continued, “The youth weremore interested in the biography of Mon Queen MiJao Bu. This is the first time Mon Women Day was celebrated in Moulmein.”

The birthday of the Mon Queen MiJao Bu aka B’nyairHtao, the only queen in the history of Burma, was named as Mon Women Day.

MiJao Bu was born on the 12th waxing day of Tabaung Month, 757, of the Burmese/Mon Calendar. Her father was King Rajadirat and her mother wasToddaMaryar. She was crowned Queen of Hongsawatoi Kingdom at the age of 57 and passed away at the age of 76, according to her biography, which is distributed by the MWN.

According to the MWN, more places cerebrated the 7th Mon Women Day in the domestic areas than previous years.

The Mon Women Network was founded in December, 2011, and consists of the Mon Youth Progressive Organization (MYPO), Border Health Initiatives (BHI), Mon Women Organization (MWO), Woman and Child Rights Project (WCRP), Mon National Education Committee (MNEC) and a group of women from the Mon Relief Development Committee (MRDC).
