MinThuta – The local rubber plantation farmers in Thanphyuzayart are shock after knowing from Township Land Record Department that their lands on Thanphyuzayart – Three Pagoda Pass motor road will be confiscated.
In the previous weeks, the officials from Thanphyuzayart Township Land Record Department came to the area, about 10 miles southeast of Thanphyuzayart town, and conducted a preliminary land measurement.
“The concerned officials did not tell, why they came and measured the lands. But the rumor was that the Burmese Army will confiscate these lands again. Some farmers are shock, and they wanted to sell their plantations, but nobody buy”, said a local farmer Nai Myint (not a real name).
Additionally, when Independent Mon News Agency asked the reason of land measurement, the local authorities replied by phone that they have no any authority to say.
Close aid to Land Record Department said, the officials measured about 600 acres land in a location on the joint of Thanphyuzayart – Three Pagoda Pass road and Thanphyuzayart – Ye motor road. The plantation owners are Thanphyuzayart town residents and the villagers nearby.
“Rubber tree price has been expensive. One tree on the main road is about 50, 000 kyat (66 US Dollar), and cheaper, if they are far from the main road”, said rubber plantation owner, Nai Aye Maung.
One acre of land can plant about 220 plants and the Mon State’s soil is very appropriate for growing rubber trees, said a retired government servant in agriculture sector.
