The MPs from All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMDP), Dr. Min New Soe and Nai Lawe Oung were appointed as ‘Ministers’ for the ‘Ministry of Social Affairs and Culture’ and ‘Ministry of Energy and Electronic Power’, respectively on March 30, when the Mon State government was formed based on the result of November 7, 2010 elections.

But in yesterday’s meeting, the 3 months old ministerial positions were withdrawn and changed. Dr. Min Nwe Soe was re’-appointed as ‘Minister of Finance and Revenue’, and Nai Lawe Oung was re-appointed as ‘Minister of Electric Power and Industry’, accordingly to the close sources to these two ministers. However, the Mon State government did not officially announce the official posts in the State media.

The leadership of AMDP expresses that there have no reporting from two Ministers on the development of the parliament.

Nai Ngwe Thein or Nai Januu Mon, Chairman of AMDP said, “The ministers those are from our party have no rights to report back to the mother party, where were discussing in the parliament. I did not know well, what are the Mon State government activities and the activities of our two ministers’.

Although IMNA tried to contact two ministers, in order to confirm their new positions, but they switched off their phones and could not contact them.

Some political analyst said that even the AMDP got two posts of ministers during three-months, they could not implement their jobs well. It is also a concern that they are changed to new positions again.

A political analyst of Mon politics, Nai Kao Tala Rot, said, “yes, they got the positions, but we did not see any implementation. I think the Union Government will not give them full power to accomplish their jobs. Mon people have no benefits from them yet. I think the meeting (first Parliament session) was planning to restrict the ministerial powers, and there will be more difficulties for them (two Mon ministers) to accomplish their jobs”.

Although the first day session was taken only 10 minutes, the Chairman of Mon State Parliament announced it would hold the second day session.

Mon State government have ministerial posts and it is led by ex-military man of Burmese Army, Lt. Gen. Ohn Myint, a native of Mon State and key leader of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). Besides two ministerial posts, all remaining positions were monopolized by USDP’s MPs.

Mon State Parliament performs with no ruling parties and no opposition party, since the Mon State government took the MPs from 2nd winner party, AMDP, and appointed them as ministers.
